Emma Watson
Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was a child
of British parents Jacqueline Luesby, a lawyer and Chris Watson, a teacher from
Paris, France. When she was five, she relocated to Oxfordshire and was a
student at the Dragon School. Emma realized when she was just six that she
wanted to become an actor. Over the course of several years, she studied at the
Oxford Stagecoach Theatre Arts branch and was taught dancing, singing, acting
and much more. By the age of 10, she had appeared and acted as the lead in a
variety of Stagecoach productions and school plays. The casting process began
for Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (192001), the film adaptation J.K.
Rowling’s bestselling novel. Emma was approached by casting agents by her
Oxford theatre instructor. After eight auditions consistently, producer David
Heyman told Emma and the other candidates, Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint,
that they were selected to play the three leads: Hermione Granger, Harry Potter
and Ron Weasley. Emma's debut on the screen came with the release of Harry
Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in 2001. It was the top-grossing feature of
2001, smashing records in terms of opening-day sales as well as opening-weekend
performances. Critics praised the film and the performances of the three young
actors who were the most prominent. The Daily Telegraph, a British newspaper
with a large circulation, praised her performance as "admirable". In
the following days, Emma was nominated for five awards for her performance in
the film. She won the Young Artist Award for Leading Young Actress in an
feature Film. Emma was among the most well-known actresses following the
movie's success. In the ten years that followed, she was the part of Hermione
Granger in the Harry Potter films Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone 2001,
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets 2002, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of
Azkaban 2004 and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire 2005. Harry Potter and the
Order of the Phoenix 2007 and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince 2009,
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 (2010) and Harry Potter and the
Deathly Hallows Part 2 (2011). Emma was nominated for two Critics Choice Awards
by the Broadcast Film Critics Association.
